Chris Cantell Discusses Gaming: PS3 at only $499
by Ana Maria Ciobanu

Sony announced last week that it has no more plans of reducing PS3's price. They operated a $100 price cut which they probably think is enough. If we look at the facts and remove any Sony sympathy(which I confess: when it comes to cd players, digital cameras, TV's, Sony is my personal favorite) I don't know why anyone should buy a $499 game console instead of a twice as cheap one.You all know I'm talking about Nintendo's Wii. I am very curious what techical aspect would make you choose the way to expensive PS3, over Nintendo's Wii.Sony's PS3 includes a hard drive, a high definition Blu-ray optical drive, HD video output, Bluetooth wireless controllers, and-in the premium version-WiFi wireless networking. Sony would love to finally see it's PS3 baby one day as a PC alternative. It also offers 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround and true 1080p high definition video playback from prerecorded Blu-ray movies. All of these features at only $499. Remember the old price reached $600.Nintendo's Wii comes at the price of $250 and includes both Bluetooth for wireless controllers and a DVD drive. It can't play DVD movies...but is it that hard to play a movie on your PC or your TV? Perhaps Nintendo are not planning to take over the world like Sony and are less selfish. the Wii focuses on physically involving games using the wireless Wii Remote paired with the accessory Nunchuk controller.Nintendo also released the Wii Fit, which I personally loved since I first saw the videos from the E3 conference.Sony announced that it sold 710,000 units of the PS3 in the April-June quarter, less than a fourth of 3.43 million Wii consoles sold in the same period. My guess is unless Sony won't stop being a Moliere main character in the game console domain, it will be totally vanished from this market. Sure some people simply like the PS3 better...but I wonder for how long. How long are they going to pay twice as much for almost the same features? Until then, enjoy this extremely funny video!

IBM Tells Employees to Behave in Second Life
by Notme dfsfs

IBM issued a series of 11 Netiquette guidelines for its employees in Second Life or other virtual online worlds, where they have to interact with the general public.IBM recently opened a sales center in Second Life, and it's the first company that ever created rules for governing on virtual worlds.Rules like "Protect your -- and IBM's -- good name", "assume that activities in virtual worlds and/or the 3-D Internet are public -- much as is participation in public chat rooms or blogs", "Protect others' privacy", "it is inappropriate to disclose or use IBM's or our clients' confidential or proprietary information -- or any personal information of any other person or company... within a virtual world,", are meant to protect against discrimination, harassment and the intellectual property of IBM. The avatars used in the virtual world must be appropriate for doing business. Employees of IBM that might encounter an inappropriate situation that is work-related must report this to IBM.A spokesman of IBM said Friday: "Whether it's suggesting to our people how they protect their privacy and identity in the 3-D Net, or how to protect intellectual property, ours or our customers', some kind of 'rules of the road,' even at this early milepost, makes sense,"

Chris Cantell Discusses Gaming: Being addicted to a game is just like being addicted to drugs
by Ioana Madalina Tantareanu

Video games can give you an addiction, as doctors have agreed, just like drugs or alcohol. This won't kill you, but it will ruin your life even worse than if you spent 18 hours a day at the office. At least if you work, you get paid; games give you status at best. It appears that online role-playing games are the most addictive, especially for unpopular kids who get respect and power in a virtual world. As their hero becomes stronger, the game becomes challenging, up to the point where the player can think only of the game. This type of addiction has symptoms just like other types, including the inability to control the need and escaping to the game world whenever real things go wrong. It stands a good chance to be included in the list of mental disorders that psychiatrists use to diagnose patients. Admitting you have a problem is always the first step to recovery and clinics to help gamers get better have appeared lately in the US and Amsterdam. And it's not only teenagers that need help; older people have been found to suffer from this disorder as well and their number is increasing in other parts of the world too, for example South Korea. The effects are the same: no interest in their spouse, in social activities, weight gain and other problems linked to becoming involved in a single activity 24h a day. Hardcore gamers think about advancing to the next level even when they're away from the computer and there's really no point in blaming the video games industry. After all, each game has a Quit button.

Halo 3 to be released September 25th
by Corina Ciubotaru

Video game fans, prepare yourselves for some more sleepless, military strategy-filled nights: Halo 3 is coming your way with improved co-op multiplayer! Three other players will be able to join your fun and make things interesting, incarnating as a Master Chief, Arbiter or one of two new Elites named N'tho 'Sraom and Usze 'Taham. Only two players at a time can play from the same Xbox 360 unit, but you will still be able to enjoy the popular split-screen view. If you have no idea what the Halo series is, but think it might be interesting, here are some facts. Halo is a science-fiction adventure game, where a group of earthling soldiers have to defeat an evil race of aliens called The Covenant, who want to wipe out mankind. The multiplayer options evolved from only being able to act as Master Chief in the first game, to two player co-ops in Halo 2 and four player co-ops in Halo 3. The game is widely acclaimed for reviving first-person shooters, and the story, sound and little graphic details are sure to captivate even novice players. Faithful but sometimes stupid AI soldiers that accompany the Master Chief in the first game are completely replaced by human characters in the third Halo, so the game becomes more challenging with every version. If you want to save the world and become a hero in anyone's eyes, you only have to wait until September 25, 2007 and dish out at least $60 to take part in the epic battle.

New Xbox 360 model

by Claudia Sonea

On May 12, 2005 Microsoft unveiled on MTV the Xbox 360, a video game console produced in collaboration with IBM, ATI and SiS. Players can compete online and download arcade games and content such as game demos, trailers, TV shows, music videos, or rented movies through its Xbox Live service. Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii are its rivals. Well, now they launched a new version called Xbox 360 Arcade that both Directions on Microsoft analyst Matt Rosoff and Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey say it doesn't even represent a challenge to the Nintendo's Wii console. First of all, the price, that usually represents high interest to the casual gamer, is with thirty bucks more than the Wii, $279. However, it has a Wireless Controller, 256 MB Memory Unit, Composite AV Cable, HDMI 1.2 output, and 5 Xbox Live Arcade titles: Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, Pac-Man Championship Edition and UNO, are joined in a single disk, which also includes a Welcome Video, and several game trailers and demos. Also it includes 256 megabytes of memory, but there comes the flaw: the version lacks a hard drive. All in all, nice going for Microsoft, but what's the point? Who would actually buy something that is more expensive and not less good than others like the incredible Wii consoles with unique motion-sensing controllers? Some might do it, if not from loyalty to this brand, at least because you're a hardcore player and see something promising in it. Although I wonder how promising can it be without the hard drive. Just wait and see!

Chris Cantell Discusses Gaming: Doba "hravá"
by Martina Harvanova

Hry. A s obrovskÃ∏m úspechom.Ponuka je naozaj Å¡iroká, kaÅ≤dÃ∏ si môÅ≤e vybraÅ¥ tú svoju obÄ≤úbenú hru podÄ≤a vlastnÃ∏ch preferenciÖ. Ponuky sa odliÅ¡ujú jedna k druhej. Absolútnymi favoritmi sú tieto: jednotkou je Call of Duty 4, nasledovaná Football Manager-om 2008, Crysis a The Sims 2.

"Play" age
by Martina Harvanova

It is getting always more and more difficult what to donate your beloved ones. Whether it is Christmas or birthday and other feast. We are slowly realizing that although there is rising range of gift opportunities that you can't compare to the few-decades-ago situation, the digest is much more complicated. People just own almost everything.Clothes is boring, electronic gadgets expensive, home decorations too common. Or on the other site, there is not enough space in our apartments for the stuff given to so many celebrations in a year. However, there is always something that can cheer and surprise and that is never routine. Games. Whatever age, gender, social status, intellectual level, you can always find an appropriate item with a label "Games". Few years ago there were novelties like Mr. Potato Head, Slinky, Twister, later Nintendo and other classic video games showed a new style of playing. In the present, although they are popular, the play with them is a bit boring. To attract more customers the companies producing video games started introducing modifications of these "old school" toys. And with a great success. The offer is really wide, everybody can pick their favorite according to preferences. The selects vary from one to the another. Absolute minions are these: the number one is Call of Duty 4, followed by Football Manager 2008, Crysis and The Sims 2. If you like clever story line, you would grab the first one, and if your vogue is rather alien-fight and you riot in perfect graphics and gameplay, your winner is Crysis. Said simply, there is everything for everybody. It is no more only blood and violence. Video games are being diversified in many ways. Well, everybody wants to play. There is a saying that who plays doesn't make troubles. And I can complete it: who plays is fully normal. Even when it is, for instance, a university-degree older woman playing Gears of War.
